“nobody’s perfect” coat rack
heres a coat rack i made this week. its called “nobody’s perfect,” and is made of 1/8th inch aluminum, with a CNC machine. besides being silly, a bit adult, sort of ridiculous and totally rad all at the same time, it also features the debut of a logo i came up with about 10 years ago, but never had any furniture upon which to place it. more on that later, but for now, just dig the total amazing ridiculousness of “nobody’s perfect.”
red tang bands in action
not sure how this slipped, but i never ever ever posted completed photos from my preview. my bad! anyways they have been doing me wonders, helping maintain some semblance of sanity throughout the office, and generally keeping things upbeat.

yes i straddle my sub, but atleast i HAVE a sub at work, which is something to speak of.
Merry Christmas: 09
yup.
that date is right.
it took me that long to blog this dang mo fo.
anyways, were looking at a Merry Christmas sign we did for local towns people (no joke, city people paid for it) that was essentially 100% up to me both graphic and product design wise. came out tight.
of course, i couldnt help throwing a little metal into the mix, right?
4×4 aluminum cone speakers
these are a set of parallel / series wired 4-by of some dinky little alu-cone full ranger specials from parts express (i think each driver was under 3 dollars). they are probly one of my most aesthetically pleasing designs, and they work for what they do (ie, it would be physically impossible to get earth shaking bass out of them, so this was a minimal enclosure). they do sound surprisingly good, when mated to a sub (as in 2.1), and would work well for an office or other compact area, lower decibel area.
the eclosure is made from red oak veneered furniture grade plywood, CnC routed into four pieces, in three shapes (two hollows in the middle, the face, and the rear), and then glued up with the diy’ers favorite vice: BOOKS! add four canisters of elbow grease, and 5 different grades of sand paper, and youve got yourself one smooth feelin’ speaker baby, oh yeah.
RETURN OF FRIDGE FACE!!!!
there are officially two sets of Fridge Face Brand Fridge Face’s in the world, one in Baltimore, Maryland, US, North America, the other in Oslo, Norwegia, Scandinavia. the norwegian owner just sent this photo, saying “my flatmates made this one, so i added the ‘cool!’ part!”
wicked.
ply chair: update
jody, seen any of this yet? its not anywhere near done, but most of the cuts are done, so next up is the align / glue / clamp phase. you can see that a number of the pieces need some flashing trimmed off, and the whole thing need lots and lots of sanding. also, right now, the compression rods are the only thing holding it together; they are also slightly skinnier than the final width (ie, the seat-to-back section still needs like 10 more), but the overall idea of the chair is there.
train sign with electronical bits
a nice combination of full color (found) photo, (found) illustration, some electronic flashy bits, some routing, and some whimsy.
ply chair
this ones for jody, sorta. its partially inspired by jody’s teanest, and primarily inspired by a chair from unto this last.
The Jew L. Rhee Tree
jenn had lots of little things (read: rings, necklaces, loops, thingies, etc) kicking about and always in different locations, with no real method or way of keeping them centralized. I made this two part milky translucent acrylic jewelry tree.
Canton Hair Studio Branding
Canton Hair Studio came to us for some over all brand action, and some awesome CNC’ed lettering out front. Originally, i had given them a complete outfit of nothing-but-Arial (to fly in the face of all those ‘only Helvetica’ devotee’s) but they had me change the nothing-but-Arial to nothing-but-Century Gothic. At least they didnt go serif. Production note: because i used negative like 1million kerning, some of the letters had to be made as one object (namely, NT and STU).
JLH all Moderne Like
Made a nice engraved sign for jenn’s office – nice enough to cause jealousy office wide (in all both other people, and one lady in Norwegia). 1/16in soft vinyl with a 1/4inch clear acrylic backer. (Notice the panda’s walking on ice? Yeah, guess i got my bears / geographical locations kinda mixed, but whatever.)
Somehow I Totally Forgot To Post This: Guitar Stand
i had shown a mysterious preview of the design before hand, but not the end result… until now!
mock up, sandwiched cardboard & double sided tape. i hadnt designed the mate / support yet, but they still supported a bass fine.
first attempt, 1/2 inch white polyvinyl chloride. the angles of the mating piece were too steep, and the slots too wide, so the whole things was wonky, and caving in like.
second attempt, two layers of 1/4 inch foggy white acrylic with double sided tape to hold them together; perfect. gave the supports two slot options that change the angle of their splay, depending on user pref / thickness of instrument used. there now exists three working stands: that one now holds my bass, number two lives upstairs at Noels house, and three holds my guitar.
sidenote: you can see some of my bodoni project in action!
Waiting for you
sitting behind a windows machine on a friday night watching old jon stewart shows, waiting for the c&c machine to finish.
heres a taste.
New Fings
Got access to a C&C. Here’s a few ‘proof of concept’ tests i did, both trivits, one for larger pots & pans featuring our address (made of clear acrylic), and the other for placing the coffee upon, post brewing & well used (made of dual-ply milk-colored acrylic).
New Product!
coming soon… here’s a teaser…
