13 Table

Made of solid Red Walnut, procured from Lane Stanton Vance, the local fine-woods supplier in North County San Diego, this oddly proportioned desk is meant to live by your front door or entrance way. Only 10 inches deep, it is long enough to handle the days mail, maybe your keys, cell phone, wallet perhaps, and anything else you would like to quickly dump until you next leave.

Largely a hand made item, all the jointery was hand chiseled and massaged into what eventually resulted in screw-less joints (only wood and glue). In fact, the only non-wood parts are 4 screws that hold the top to the skirts, easily accessible from the bottom. The 13 Table boasts a custom design in the Shaker style- one known for its pre-minimal, clean and understated lines.

Details include a 1 cm flange around all sides of the top, and both inside faces of each leg taper down and in, as is slightly more evident on the original sketch to the right. (No, its not on a napkin. Yes it is the original.)

Impact:

The entire table consists of 13 pieces (4 legs, 4 side skirts, 4 screws and one top). All natural wood glue was used for the joints, while the wood itself was left unfinished and only needs an occasional rub down in your favorite oil- anything from vegetable to Tung (an extract of the Chinese Tung Tree) will suffice, although we recommend the later.
